day 1 : Day of leisure

Chiang Mai safari tours

Chiang Mai Night Safari is located about 10 km southwest ofthe city centre beside the canal road, got off to a bad start withenvironmentalists by encroaching on land belonging to Doi Suthep National Park,and then by announcing that the meat of all animals on display woild also beavailable in its restaurant.Orginally a menagerie of a missionary family\'spet, the zoo new houses an impressive collection. There\'s a children\'s zoo, acolorful walk-through aviary and a tropical freshwater aquarium, housing thedlusive giant Mekong catfish, while larger mammals include elephants, giraffes,Humboldt penguins and the current favorites, two giant pandas loaned by Chinafor ten years in 2003. Despite a sisorientating laayout, it makes a divertingvisit,especially for kids. Feeding times for animals are posted clearly, andrefreshment stalls for humans are never far away. The grounds are too big towalk round, but “service car”, small open-sided buses, are available to takeyou around, soon to be replaced by anew monorail that was under construction atthe time of writing. The zoo is better visited in the morning to avoid theafternoon heat, or in the evening, when “teilight zone” features animalsfeeding.

day 2 : Elephant Safari & Rafting

08.30 AM   ElephantSafari & Rafting.(Full day tour)

A pleasant scenic trip north by minibus along the ChiangMai – Thaton route. Amidst lush tropical jungle at an elephant camp, see ademonstration of how talented an trained elephants are used for work in thetimber industry…..pushing, pulling and rolling logs using their tusks, trunksand feet. Then, its. “ ride ‘eme cowboy” time.… an exciting elephant ride overhills and into the lush jungle. “Swing with the sway” is what it’s all about,but hang on tight folks. After the ride, have a picnic lunch under the cooljungle shade. Then enjoy a “Huckleberry Finn” bamboo rafting trip for an houron the placid, serene river. On the return, stop by to visit an orchid farmfilled with exotic orchids in bloom.

Drive back to town.

day 3 : Doi Suthep Temple & Meo Hill - tribe Village

Have A Breakfast.

08.30 AM   Doi SuthepTemple & Meo Hill - tribe Village. (Half day)A pleasant winding drive up toWat Prathat Doi Suthep, the symbol of Chiang Mai, where the holy relic of theLord Buddha is enshrined. 2 magnificent Nagas act as guardians as you ascend upthe steps to the temple.A splendid view of town and the surrounding country-side can be seen from the temple grounds. Drive further up the mountain to aMeo hill -tribe village. Migrants from China, they choose to live inself-sustaining villages while retaining their primitive culture, quaintcustoms and elaborately embroideried dresses. Return back to town.

Have A Lunch.

01.30 PM       Home Industries.(Half day)

A paradise program for shoppers willing to enjoy the funart of shopping see world -renowned native handicrafts actually being craftedby master craftsmen and their assistants.Elaborate teak-wood carvings inhundreds of forms and sizes, intricate hand-made silverware, high-firedceladon, lustrous lacquer-were, Thai silk and cotton being woven the ancient,traditional way on rustic wooden looms, primitive paper making process,hand-made paper and silk parasols in a dazzling blaze of rainbow hues. Watchskilled artists painting on parasols. High skill and endless patience is anecessary virtue to work in these industries.
